Is AA the Only Way? What Therapists Should Know about SMART Recovery and other Alternative (Non-12-Step) Approaches to Addiction

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

(1) Analyze available research on effectiveness of self-help and support groups

(2) Explain and utilize the 4-point SMART Recovery program of

-Building and Maintaining Motivation

-Coping with Urges

-Managing Thoughts, Feelings, and Behavior

-Living a Balanced Life

(3) Explain and utilize tools of SMART Recovery, such as Stages of Change, REBT, with their patients

(4) Discuss your patient’s addictive problems in collaborative manner and explain options for self help and support groups to patients based upon your patient’s individual needs and references 

Approved for 2 hours of general continuing education credits

Fee:  Free for FPA, FIT and SCMH Members; Free for Non-FPA Members for Attendance only, $20 if seeking ceu credit.
