OBJECTIVES

The objective of this regional conference is to bring together experts from University settings and community practices to discuss the science, practice and applications of mindfulness for mental health and well-being. Mindfulness -- broadly defined as active, open awareness on the present moment, while calmly, non-judgmentally acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations -- has a growing popular and empirical base. This conference will provide both didactic and experiential learning to understand these techniques first hand and be able to incorporate these tools and into your clinical practices, research, and personal life following participation.

Summarize the empirical evidence related to mindfulness practices

Help you utilize mindfulness strategies effectively

Select mindfulness techniques and strategies that would most benefit the people with whom you work

Understand how mindfulness practices can be helpful with disordered eating

Understand developmentally appropriate mindfulness practices with youth to obtain particular outcomes

Apply principles of mindfulness to psychotherapeutic diagnosis and treatment
